transport projects receive \u00a31.4m to encourage clean travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Winners of a \u00a31.4 million competition to transform the transport sector, grow the economy and promote cleaner travel have been announced by the Department for Transport today.<\/h2>\n<p>Organisations and academics with innovative ideas could win up to \u00a345,000 in funding to offer sustainable, forward-thinking alternatives and contribute to the government\u2019s aim of efficient and clean travel networks.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last decade, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cp.catapult.org.uk\/transport-research-and-innovation-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transport Research and Innovation Grant (TRIG) programme<\/a> has invested over \u00a315m to support industries in pursuing new technologies and collaborations \u2013 helping deliver key economic growth throughout the country.<\/p>\n<h3>How emerging technologies could advance clean travel<\/h3>\n<p>This year, proposals were sought that focused on local transport decarbonisation, maritime decarbonisation, and emerging technologies such as AI and drones.<\/p>\n<p>Aviation, Maritime and Security Minister\u00a0Mike Kane stated: \u201cInnovation is the driving force behind our transport system, and these winning projects are leading the charge by creating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/government-announces-new-plans-for-cleaner-air-travel-in-uk-airspace\/52130\/\">cutting-edge travel solutions<\/a> that could benefit all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith sustainability at the core of this year\u2019s competition, we\u2019re helping to shape the future of transport \u2013 making travel cleaner, safer and more efficient for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the groundbreaking projects awarded funding through the government\u2019s TRIG is Vox Aeris, an invention that hopes to use sound waves and music vibrations from a speaker to reduce harmful pollution across transport networks.<\/p>\n<p>Selene Sari, founder and CEO of Vox Aeris, said: \u201cThe financial backing, expertise, and network support we\u2019re receiving will be crucial for us to advance to the next stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving such robust support early in our journey will enable us to move faster and connect with networks that would otherwise be challenging to bring together.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Innovative projects unlock new benefits<\/h3>\n<p>Previous TRIG winners include OpenSpace \u2013 a cutting-edge project using digital twinning and AI to tackle rail station disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Using special algorithms created the world\u2019s first real-time simulated environment at St Pancras station to help operators manage people flow, improve safety, and boost customer experience.<\/p>\n<p>TRIG has been running for over a decade, funding more than 430 projects, ranging from better connecting rural communities with a shuttle bus app to trialling the use of hydrogen to make plane and boat journeys greener.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInnovation in clean travel can unlock many benefits for society, the economy and the environment,\u201d explained Erika Lewis, Chief Executive Officer at Connected Places Catapult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Transport Research and Innovation Grants programme has supported high-potential innovators for a decade, through funding and dedicated business support, helping them realise their commercial potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Aviation, Maritime and Security Minister is at the Transport Research and Innovation Grant Awards in Birmingham to celebrate last year\u2019s successful winners and see firsthand what the funding can achieve.<\/p>\n<p>See the <a
