Toyota has now announced it is investing a further $8bn into Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC), taking the total investment to $13.9bn.<\/p>\n
Currently under construction in Liberty, North Carolina, the new Toyota battery plant will be the company\u2019s first in North America and will be 100% powered by renewable energy.<\/p>\n
The plant, which comes online in 2025, will be pivotal for Toyota reaching its electrification goals<\/a>, with the automaker targeting to roll out 30 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models by 2030.<\/p>\n Speaking on the fresh investment, Sean Suggs, president of Toyota North Carolina, said: \u201cToday\u2019s announcement reinforces Toyota\u2019s commitment to electrification and carbon reduction, bringing jobs and future economic growth to the region.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are excited to see the continued energy and support of this innovative manufacturing facility.\u201d<\/p>\n The battery manufacturing plant will support the development of Toyota\u2019s BEVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)<\/a> and will include ten BEV\/PHEV\u00a0battery lines.<\/p>\n The seven million square feet facility will also have four battery production lines for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), with the line being introduced in a phased approach all the way through to 2030.<\/p>\n Once fully operational, the battery plant will produce 30GWh annually, a major boost to the company\u2019s EV drive, with Toyota already getting over 24 million EVs on the road globally.<\/p>\nInside Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina<\/h3>\n
