As part of the deal, the UK and Israel will commit to supplying \u00a31.7m in support for joint tech projects covering advanced research areas, including quantum computing.<\/p>\n
The agreement is part of a longstanding goal for the UK to form tech and innovation partnerships internationally. Recent examples include agreements with India, Japan, Switzerland, and South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael is known as the startup nation for good reason. From its world-leading approach to R&D to its flourishing biotech, cyberspace, and agritech sectors, it is truly one of the world\u2019s most innovative economies,\u201d said George Freeman, Minister for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThat\u2019s why I prioritised Israel as one of our first priority R&D collaborations in our network of global collaborations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe deal will attract investment and support the global impact of UK innovation as part of our science superpower mission<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The UK and Israel collaboration will be structured in the standard three pillars of research, commercialisation, and bilateral government priorities.<\/p>\n Israel has one of the world\u2019s highest expenditures on R&D, which has led to a thriving technology<\/a> ecosystem featuring startup successes such as website builder Wix and map company Waze, which was acquired by Google in 2013.<\/p>\n Ofir Akunis of Israel\u2019s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, commented: \u201cI believe this signing will contribute significantly to the scientific and technological cooperation and networking between scientists and entrepreneurs in both our countries.<\/p>\n \u201cThe UK and Israel have developed excellent, cutting-edge technology in many fields over the years.<\/p>\n \u201cThis collaboration will not only benefit our scientific communities but will also benefit the broader economy and security of our nations.\u201d<\/p>\n The agreement comes just weeks after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak\u2019s agreement with the EU for the UK to participate in the Horizon Europe<\/a> scientific research programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Learn how a UK and Israel tech collaboration will support the UK’s mission to become a science and tech superpower.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":37514,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[830],"tags":[24137],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\nUK and Israel deal will support tech superpower goals<\/h3>\n
