Communities in West Sussex are set to benefit from quicker and safer journeys thanks to a new road upgrade.<\/p>\n<h3>Transport Minister Baroness Vere has announced a \u00a317m investment<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a317m investment in the A2300 improvement scheme, was announced earlier this week by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/baroness-vere-of-norbiton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transport Minister Baroness Vere<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The A2300 improvement, worth \u00a322m in total, not only plans to reduce congestion, but also plans to improve safety by converting a 2.5km section of the existing road to a dual carriageway between the A23 and the proposed Northern Arc roundabout.<\/p>\n<h3>Reduce congestion and improve infrastructure<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThis government is committed to boosting transport links for communities up and down the country.\u201d Said Transport Minister Baroness Vere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis transformative road scheme will not only save drivers time, but will also mean more homes, more shared footpaths, and more cycleways \u2013 boosting journeys for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The scheme links Burgess Hill to the A23\/M23 and is a vital route for commuters, who usually experience congestion and delays. The upgrades will also see the addition of new walking and cycling paths, improve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/redflex-smart-mobility-europe\/490\/\">smart mobility<\/a> and will allow over 3,500 new houses to be built along the route, by providing a key link between the planned development at Burgess Hill and the London to Brighton corridor.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cHelping to unlock significant development opportunities\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>At its peak, it is estimated over 20,000 vehicles use the road daily. Without the upgrade, traffic flows are expected to grow by 40% over the next two decades.<\/p>\n<p>West Sussex County Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Highways and Infrastructure Roger Elkins added: \u201cThis is the excellent news we have been waiting for and puts the scheme on course for starting on site this spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scheme will widen around 2.5km of single-lane road to a dual carriageway, helping to unlock significant development opportunities, reduce congestion, and bring many other benefits to the area, including providing new walking and cycling facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>When will the scheme begin?<\/h3>\n<p>This is the latest in the government\u2019s drive to improve links and level up infrastructure for communities across the UK and follows the announcement of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/major-boost-for-bus-services-as-pm-outlines-new-vision-for-local-transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a35bn funding package<\/a> to overhaul bus and cycle links around the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Work on the scheme is expected to start in the spring, with the road expected to be open in winter 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The new road is just one of a number of projects in West Sussex including the Crawley Growth Programme and the major station improvements at Gatwick.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department for Transport is investing \u00a317m in the A2300 improvement at Burgess Hill, UK, to reduce congestion, and enable journeys to become quicker and greener.
