{"id":36554,"date":"2023-08-24T11:27:59","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T10:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/?p=36554"},"modified":"2023-08-24T11:27:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-24T10:27:59","slug":"jaguar-to-create-renewable-energy-storage-system-using-i-pace-batteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/jaguar-to-create-renewable-energy-storage-system-using-i-pace-batteries\/36554\/","title":{"rendered":"Jaguar to develop UK renewable energy storage system from recycled I-PACE batteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Jaguar Land Rover is partnering with Wykes Engineering Ltd to create one of the UK\u2019s largest renewable energy storage systems from recycled I-PACE batteries.<\/h2>\n<p>The groundbreaking renewable energy storage system will harness the power of recycled batteries from Jaguar\u2019s electric vehicle, the I-PACE.<\/p>\n<p>Reusing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/category\/electric-vehicle-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric vehicle<\/a> batteries for energy storage will not only help establish a circular economy for Jaguar, aiding the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaguarlandrover.com\/reimagine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reimagine Strategy<\/a> to achieve net zero emissions by 2039, but will also help realise the full potential of solar and wind power.<\/p>\n<p>Rueben Chorley, Jaguar\u2019s Sustainable Industrial Operations Director, commented: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be working with Wykes Engineering on this pioneering project that will help unlock the true potential of renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeveloping second-life battery projects like this is crucial to helping JLR adopt a new circular economy business model and drive us toward achieving carbon net zero by 2039.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jaguar Land Rover announces 2030 sustainability targets\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ww-zQZwDyHc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>How does the renewable energy storage system work?<\/h3>\n<p>The renewable energy storage system will be developed by Wykes Engineering and will use 30 second-life I-PACE batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Each system can store up to 2.5MWh of energy at full capacity, with Jaguar aiming to supply enough recycled batteries to store 7.5MWh of energy by the end of 2023 \u2013 enough to power 750 homes for a day.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the renewable energy storage systems is connected to an advanced inverter that optimises energy management and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>The technology can directly supply power to the National Grid during peak times and can draw power out of the grid throughout off-peak hours to store for future use.<\/p>\n<p>This type of renewable energy storage system will be instrumental in decarbonising the grid by capturing solar and wind energy during sunny or windy conditions to be used at other times of the year when energy demands are higher, such as winter.<\/p>\n<p>David Wykes, the Managing Director of Wykes Engineering, said: \u201cOne of the major benefits of the system we\u2019ve developed is that the containers are connected to the grid in such a way that they can absorb solar energy that could otherwise be lost when the grid reaches capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis excess energy can now be stored in the second-life I-PACE batteries and discharged later. Jaguar recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovationnewsnetwork.com\/jaguar-land-rover-owner-to-set-up-electric-car-battery-factory-in-the-uk\/35070\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to develop a 40GW electric car battery factory in the UK<\/a>, reinforcing the company\u2019s ambitions to become a sustainability leader in the automotive
