ControlPoint Inc. is an animal diagnostics company focused on developing tests that can be used by anyone anywhere and provide fast results.

During the company’s formation, ControlPoint began to explore the idea of a diagnostics test that could detect multiple pathogens and improve animal health.

After doing market research, ControlPoint identified a market segment in companion animals at the point of care and decided to work toward developing a test for the detection of canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC), commonly known as kennel cough.

Kennel cough is one of the most common infections in dogs, impacting more than 5,000,000 dogs in the United States every year, yet there currently is no fast, accurate way to diagnose it.

On-site testing for faster results and reduced spread

On-site veterinary testing has considerable advantages over laboratory-based testing, which usually involves laborious and expensive laboratory techniques and dedicated technical personnel.

All of the analytical processes involved in testing, from the sample collection to the communication of results, could be performed in a single step, considerably reducing the time between testing, treatment and spread of disease.

Point-of-care testing can translate into more affordable veterinary care, reduced handling of animals, targeted treatments, and enable rapid diagnosis even in remote geographic areas.

Expanding platforms to address multiple animal health issues

Using the same principle as with the canine CIRDC test, ControlPoint plans to expand its platform to include multiplex, hand-held, rapid lateral flow tests for other indications in companion and production animals.

ControlPoint believes that multiplex, rapid lateral flow tests that are quick, easy to use, and cost-effective will greatly improve animal health around the world.
