EnerOcean is a growing technology company founded in 2007, with offices in Málaga in the Andalucia region and Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. EnerOcean is the oldest Spanish company in Marine Energy Engineering. As an R&D SME, Enerocean received many awards and accolades prior to being invested in by international energy major Eni in 2022. Today EnerOcean’s largest industrial owner, Eni maintains a minority shareholding.

EnerOcean’s business scope covers resource analysis, feasibility studies, key enabling technologies development, for example, condition and structural monitoring for marine energy devices, technology development as we are doing with the W2Power floating wind power solution, to engineering and commercial exploitation of large offshore energy farms.

EnerOcean is recognised as an innovation champion at the national and European levels:

The company is an active member of regional, national and European associations, such as:

EnerOcean started collaborating with the original owners of the W2Power offshore wind solution in 2010 and became its lead developer in 2012. After several rounds of design optimisation and tank testing, reaching TRL5 in 2015 for all main subsystems with testing at Flowave (University of Edinburgh), culminating in eight testing campaigns at four laboratories in three different European countries.

Since 2016, Enerocean is sole owner of all the know-how and intellectual property related to W2Power. The main objective driving the evolution of the W2Power technology is to be the most cost-effective floating offshore wind solution, reducing the global cost of energy, and also with other options like multi-use (aquaculture, energy storage, wave energy, etc.).

W2Power in its current design allows up to 20 MW power on a single floating foundation, using two commercially used offshore wind turbines currently on the market. Since 2019, W2Power has been the first floating offshore wind platform in Spanish waters and the first twin-turbine floating solution to reach open-sea testing in the World, achieving TRL6.

W2Power is an innovative adaption of proven, mature offshore technologies to the needs of emerging deep-water offshore wind.
